It seems to be a fact of life that accidents happen. No matter how much you desire to keep your carpets free of stains when you have children, pets, visitors, or house parties, you are prone to run into a few accidents here and there. The good thing is that if you take action and act fast on getting an accident taken care of, your carpet will last for many years. Today we are going to share some tips on the best ways to get "that stuff" out of your carpet without ruining it.
How to Get Blood Out of Carpet
If blood gets onto your carpet, it will create a dark red/brown stain if not removed. Blood is most easily removed from the carpet if you can clean it up before it dries. If the blood has already dried onto the carpet, begin cleaning by removing as much of the dried blood as you can with a scraping tool. Vacuum what you have been able to scrape off. The next step is where it gets tricky. Many people will say to grab some cold water, dish detergent, and a cleaning cloth. Mix the dish detergent in with the cold water. Take the cleaning cloth, dip it in the soapy water, then dab the bloodstain with the wet and soapy cleaning cloth. Though the intentions of this process are good and will likely remove the bloodstain, we NEVER recommend putting soap into your carpet. When you put detergents into your carpet fibers, it always leaves behind a soapy residue that will soon turn into a dirt magnet.
If you can catch the blood early, here is the right thing to do. Use an ice cube, cold water, and a paper towel to soak it up. Ice will help prevent the blood from setting, and the cold water and the paper towel will help you soak it up. Always avoid hot water as this will set the blood.
If you have a bloodstain in your carpet that won't come out with cold water itself, we recommend that you let the Zerorez professionals do the job. We will be able to remove the stain through our process that uses no soaps, detergents, or harsh chemicals. Learn more about our cleaning process here!
How to Get Gum Out of Carpet
There is one creative way that may help you get gum out of your carpet. It is to freeze it out. You can do this by placing an ice pack on the gum to make it hard. Then, take a scraping tool such as a butter knife, and scrape the gum out of the carpet. Other ways of trying to get gum out of carpet, such as to grease it out, are messier and could do more harm to your carpet than good. When in doubt, call Zerorez!
How to Get Dog Pee Out of Carpet
The most popular DIY way of getting dog pee out of carpet is to mix vinegar with water, pour over the mess, the dab it out. This might seem effective, but it won't eliminate odors and doesn't have the power to remove the contaminants that will damage your carpet.
